RSV - What a nightmare! PDF Print E-mail

What a nightmare it has been.

Brooke has been in the hospital since Saturday night. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and then today her test results came back positive for RSV.  I have been crying non stop. She’s dependent on oxygen. When she is not on it she saturates in the lows 80s to high 70s. Her respiratory rate is high and her chest is pounding just to breathe. They considered putting her on the respirator in the early morning this morning…but she improved a bit which has kept her off it. If she can keep her energy going…we’ll stay off it. If she starts to get too exhausted we may need to go that route.

I have watched my little fighter get reduced to a little defeated, quite child under the misery of having all the doctors and nurses (and mom) insist she go through all these terrible, painful procedures.

It has reduced me to tears. I’ve lost five pounds in 3 days.

This was our third winter, our first without the shots and without quarantine. I thought she was weathering all her colds excellently.

I just wish I could take this all away from her.

The doctors keep telling me that mothers get hit the hardest. (Next in line to the little babies, I imagine is what they mean) Wow. What an understatement.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks,
Lauren
